Positive Vibrations

positive vibrations

We have talked about meditating in the same place and at the same time in order to help develop a routine and to mentally prepare for meditation.

Another important benefit of doing this is the build up of positive vibrations in that space. Over time these vibrations will help your mind to settle more quickly.

You will also find that when you sit on your cushion or chair you look forward to meditating.

Meditation Tip

before you start meditation

Before you start to meditate it can help if you take a few slow, steady, deep breaths with your eyes closed. This will help calm your mind and ground you for your meditation. Breathe in and out through your nostrils and just be aware of the depth and speed of your breath – slowly does it for the best results.

To really experience the benefits of meditation you need to be consistent.

Try to meditate each and every day. Remember, the more you can make it a routine the easier it becomes. Meditating at the same time and in the same place helps with re-training the brain. It will also give you a time you know you have all to yourself so you can look forward to it. Let your family know that this is your time and ask them not to disturb you while you are meditating.

It takes time

Meditation Tip

Meditation takes time

Be realistic with the amount of time you set aside for daily meditation. Meditation is neither a torture test nor a marathon. It’s okay to start with 10 minutes each day and then slowly build up to whatever length of time feels comfortable for you. Remember that you are re-training your brain and that this takes time, persistence and patience.

Before you sit to begin meditating try these simple routines. They will help you to relax and loosen some of the tension.
Remember to do them slowly and mindfully.

  • Gently stretch your arms up and then slowly down to the side several times.
  • Then slowly bend forward and down as far as you are comfortable. Straighten up and bend backwards.
  • Breathe slowly and deeply through your nostrils for 5 rounds of inhalation and exhalation.

Comfortable meditation

It’s important to be comfortable when you begin to meditate. Discomfort is a huge distraction for the mind.

For you, sitting comfortably might be on a cushion with your legs crossed. It might be on a chair or even on the floor with your back against a wall.

No matter which position you choose there are two important things to keep in mind.

The first is that your back should be straight – not ramrod or stiff but erect.

The second is that you are able to be comfortable for the period of time you’ve set yourself for meditating.
