“Work is the Leading Cause of Stress”
Lifeline’s Stress Poll of May 2014 has found that 77% of Australians indicated they experience stress due to work.
“Lifeline is concerned about the high levels of stress in our community, and each year it increases,” says Lifeline Chairman, John Brogden.
We all know that stress is not good for us and that it affects workplace productivity and relationships.
“If stress lasts a long time or overwhelms our ability to cope, it can have a detrimental effect on our health, wellbeing, and general enjoyment of life,” said John Brogden.
But here’s the good news!
Lifeline’s Stress Poll identified that
98% of Australians think that humour and laughter can reduce stress
Dr Melissa Weinberg, who works on the Australian Unity Wellbeing Index, said “Laughter can bring about an increase in the sense of optimism, sense of control and overall life satisfaction. It helps to facilitate the connection between people at work and makes them feel more comfortable about being there.”
Just knowing that you, their employer, is willing to do something to boost their wellbeing is another significant factor in helping workers manage stress levels.
Here at Meditate Laugh Relax in Albury-Wodonga we offer Laughter and Relaxation Wellness Workshops in your workplace. In just 60 minutes you and your employees will experience the wonderful sense of wellbeing that comes from sustained laughter and deep relaxation.
Laughter is natural. It lifts our spirits and makes us feel happy. Laughter is contagious. It brings people together and can help us feel more alive and empowered.
Laughter is all about connection with others
Let us help you and your employees rediscover the joy of teamwork and a greater acceptance and appreciation of each other.
All through the power of laughter
After the laughter exercises your staff will be guided through a 20-minute relaxation exercise, which will leave them feeling relaxed and happy.
We all know that relaxation is good for us
But relaxation is not automatic. It’s a skill that requires training and practice, just like learning to ride a bicycle, play golf, or swim.
The primary objective of relaxation is to relieve tension. It decreases the wear and tear of life’s challenges on the mind and body. It is the antidote to stress.
Relaxation consists of physical changes in your body that include a decrease in heart rate, blood pressure, muscle tension, and respiration rate.
But just how can relaxation have such wide-ranging and powerful effects?
- It’s because relaxation is linked to higher levels of feel-good chemicals such as serotonin and to the growth hormone that repairs cells and tissue.
- Indeed, studies show that relaxation lowers heart rate, boosts immunity and enables the body to thrive.
- So just imagine how your staff are going to feel after a combined Laughter and Relaxation Wellness Workshop! And you will be able to see productivity increase as your people get back to their work.
- Stanford’s Eric Tsytsylin claims the positive benefits of laughter can remain for a long period of time after the laughter session originally occurred. “Laughter is a powerful tool that individuals and organisations can use to boost happiness, creativity and productivity.”
- Laughter creates strong ties and a happier workplace atmosphere. It is a great bonding exercise. Humour is a vital skill that helps people to cope in today’s workplace.

“I am naturally a giggler and tend to laugh really loudly. The second Ian and Kathleen started the first laughter exercise at our business seminar, I was in stitches with tears of joy literally running down my cheeks. The moments of joy we all shared were priceless. They created a contagious positive spirit in the group that day. Thank you for teaching me a new way to truly experience joy instantly!
